Planned Giving Program
The Legacy for Justice
These
are very difficult times financially for legal aid in Maine.
Provider support has fallen and demand for services has
increased. The Bar
Foundation responded by promising a “funding floor” for its Annual
Grantees for three years. This
assisted them in planning staffing and administrative tasks and helped
retain core services.
But at the same time revenues for the Bar Foundation have decreased
dramatically. Between
historically low interest rates and decreases in IOLTA account balances,
our revenues have fallen over 30% compared to the same period in 2008.
This commitment means that the Foundation has dipped into
reserves built up over many years of conservative budgeting.
In
order to ensure that the Foundation will always be ready to assist in
the provision of legal aid in Maine, the Board of Directors has
established a Planned Giving Program.
The Legacy for Justice will provide a permanent endowment for the
mission of the Foundation: support
for low-income legal aid and law related education.
You
can be part of the future of legal aid in Maine by becoming a member of
the Cornerstone Society in
support of this Legacy today. Your
planned gift need not impact your current financial plans while at the
same time providing on-going support for the Foundation.
Please join us today by making a
planned gift. We
offer the following sample language for doing so:
“I
give and bequeath [the sum of _____________________ dollars ($
__________)] {_______% of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate]
to the Maine Bar Foundation of Hallowell, Maine, to be [used] [endowed]
for its general charitable purposes.
